  Spinderella repairs her web

This _huge spider -- her web measures over a yard in diameter and you can strum it like a guitar string without breaking it -- has been residing in my backyard for at least a couple of months. She is gorgeous and some day I'm going to research to find out exactly what she is. At any rate, this morning's rainstorm wreaked havoc on her web and she is busy making repairs. I watched for a good 15 minutes -- it was utterly fascinating.

  Toad 'n' Frog Chorus
If you're by the bayside you can hear the frogs and toads calling tonight, the first time in a very long time. I think it was that nice rain we had this morning - hey send more, dude! Anyway, we have a few living in our garage and the ones most prevalent down here are the:

Spotted Chorus Frog
Gulf Coast Toad
Green Treefrog

No idea who the male perps are tonight, and there's no picture because it's dark as heck outside. But it is way cool to hear them sing again ...

  She's Beautiful!

. . . but doesn't run!

This 1980 Rolls Royce survived the trip from Mississippi, and now rests comfortably in the front parking lot of my favorite mechanic's shop, here in Michigan. He still has hopes of getting it running but certainly has not had much support from his fellow mechanics. "Wouldn't touch it . . . it's a bastard to work on . . . everything is backwards . . . good luck" . . . are just some of the comments he gets.

I'm searching the internet for answers . . . I may put it up for sale "As is." What do you think?

  Getting Out the Vote

Here's Miss Nanette "getting out the vote" with free rides to the Town Hall. Lori Wells and Shane Wilson took full advantage of the elect-o-mobile. They even raided a bunch of lei flowers to throw at the candidates (pink ones for Bob?). Very cool, Nanette!

  "that's Life" - day two

Cold rain.
All too typical in Harrison -- alas.
And the prediction is for more of the same tomorrow.

But the SoBs have been on this sandpile before and we were prepared with the right clothes for once. (Special thanks to Kirk for the borrowed warmies - they made all the difference today.)

We made good progress today on two of our three stacks and there is some fun stuff emerging... lots of little visual treasures waiting for someone willing to stop and look for a while.

Photos by amazin' -- visit his flickr stream for lots of other great B.C. shots.

Well here we are in beautiful Harrison Hot Springs, B.C.
It was a chilly chilly morning but things warmed up after lunch and after some morning showers tomorrow it looks like it will keep getting warmer.

We got a good start on our sculpture and the snowy mountain backdrop is going to make for some lovely and dramatic photo opportunities. We have 3.6 more days on this sculpture, tentatively entitled "That's Life."

We are guests at the Executive Inn and our room just happens to be right across the hall from the Hot tub. I think I hear it calling.... (photos by amazin' walter)

FLASH! from Amazin' Walter, Grand PoohBah of the Sons of the Beach

Local heroes "Amazin'" Walter and sandyfeet , the fearless leaders of the "Sons of the Beach" are headed for British Colombia. That's in Canada in case you are as gepgraphically challenged as I am. We've been going to the delightful little town of Harrison Hot Springs, B.C., Canada since the early 90's but our annual trek has always been in September for the "World Championships of Sandsculpting" aka "Harrisand". We have had mixed results in the competition but have made many friends and learned a lot in the 15 years we have been going. Won a little, lost most, and some got rained out. Well, these foolish sandsculptors work anyway so it only got miserable not rained out. But I digress.

The Sons of the Beach will be representing South Padre Island at the first ever "Tournament of Champions" at Harrison Hot Springs starting May 10 and working through May 14th. Teams of 2 made up of sculptors who have won medals at the World Championships will compete for a $3000 first prize. In keeping with our mission of spreading the Unlitter message and promoting the beaches of South Padre Island as our "end of the road Island Paradise" we will be flying the South Padre Island flag and putting up the South Padre Island Convention and Visitors Bureau banner (which will remain until October), and swearing everyone in as "Sworn, Sons of the Beach" by having them raise their right hand and repeating after us... "I promise to Have Fun!, Help others Have Fun! and Unlitter!" Unlitter is to Properly dispose of more garbage than you generate. The Sons of the Beach launched the Unlitter campaign in front of the Visitors Center in March of 1986 with a large amount of falderal, and hoopla, live music, including introduction to the community of the song, "Unlitter-iIt", by sandyfeet and we have never stopped swearing in eager unlitterits or playing the song.... (ask her she'll play it for you on her ukelele}.
