World Ocean Day Activities on SPI
This from our good friend Scarlett Colley:
World Ocean Day Thursday June 8th The South Padre Island Dolphin Research and Sealife Center is open with free admission all day long from 10:00 to 6:00pm. The center's mission is to raise awareness for us all to become ECO FRIENDLY. Let us all take home souvenirs that are eco friendly. That means no sealife has been killed to sell to us!!
Also free dolphin eco tours will be given all day for those who come by the center and sign up. Space is limited to six on each trip and the tours are an hour tour..There will be two boats running for that by local dolphinologists Scarlet and George Colley. The center is located in the Island Plaza Center at Polaris Street just behind Dorado's Restaurant and across from Circle K. This is our way of saying thank you to our Ocean that gives us so much each day.

Amazin' Walter and sandy feet are off to another contest this weekend --
the AIA (American Institute of Architects) sand sculpture contest in Galveston. It is open only to architectural firms, so the SPI sculptors will be participating as paid consultants -- to opposing teams.
"The firm I am working with -
EDI Architecture - has got a killer plan and a history of winning the prized 'golden bucket' award," says sandy feet. "Sure, Amazin' is good -- almost as good as me! -- but I am confident that in the end EDI will smash the competition like the insignificant sandpail dabblers they are."
When asked for a response to that comment, Amazin' Walter retorted, "Hogwash. Fun will be had."

happy refugees

A friend of ours - a fellow sandsculptor who lives on an island that isn't SPI - sends this intersting photo and report:
the cuban refugees that landed in our backyard last sunday. after 3 days adrift at sea, they got water, shots of rum and ding-dongs at our place.....they like ding-dongs (rock-on). we presently are attempting to claim the abandoned 28'.5" wooden, diesel powered boat ours, though may take some time... send pics on that one later.
